What is SILKNOW ?

SILKNOW is a research project that improves the understanding, conservation and dissemination of European silk heritage from the 15th to the 19th century. It applies next-generation computing research to the needs of diverse users (museums, education, tourism, creative industries, media…), and preserves the tangible and intangible heritage associated with silk.

The consortium conducting SILKNOW was led by University of Valencia and consisted of universities and companies from all over Europe. We had a great pleasure and honour to be a part of it.

Monkeyfab role in the project was making research on adaptation of additive technology for 3D printng on fabrics and to provide tangible examples the Silknow Virtual Loom. Most notable outcome of our work was printing fashion designs, concieved by the artist - Patryk Wojciechowski and the grand finale was a fashion event in Cervantes Institute in Warsaw.

The project was a great opportunity for us to develop new solutions to most pressing issues and further push the boundries of the technology. One of the researched parts is a new integrated printhead which was incorporated into all machines in our farm and transformed the way we work today.
